We have added, new decals, but these decals are stencils. We've been ask how to apply the stencils, since the vinyl isn't part of the stencil? We also been ask does the transfer paper get removed? Along with several other questions.
In this post you get detailed instructions, but simply instructions to apply and remove the vinyl.
First things first.
1. Choose the area
2. Measure the area
3. Clean the air and dry the area
A3...If glass, clean with glass cleaner, make sure the area is completely dry.
B3... If apply to wood must be a smooth surface clean with wood cleaner and make sure the area has no residue left behind and is dry.
4. Position the stencil where you want it, then tape it down in the middle with a long strip of masking tape or painters tape. Make sure the stencil is centered and level before you proceed.
5. Once tape is in place, slightly bend one corner, start to slowly remove the backing (white) not the transfer tape. Make sure as you peel back, the vinyl is stuck to the clear transfer tape. Cut with scissors the loose white backing paper. Then, secure vinyl stencil area by smoothing down the cut side with a squeegee.
6. Now that part of the vinyl stencil is attached, remove the rest of the white backing paper and attach the other half. Use a squeegee (or similar) and rub against the vinyl stencil a few times to make sure your decal is attached to the wood sign backing.
A6. Slowly peel off the transfer tape at a 45 degree angle. If any part of the vinyl starts to come up off the stencil with the transfer tape, firmly run over that part of the vinyl with a squeegee and peel back the transfer tape again.
7. After the stencil is applied, tape off the area around the stencil, this will ensure no excess paint gets on the other area's.
8. It’s time to paint over our stencil and transfer our design! There are several painting methods to use for this step.... I usually prefer to spray paint. I used a flat finish spray paint. Try to avoid really cheap spray paint. (If putting on plastic, make sure the paint will adhere to plastic) There is also stencil paint as well.The key when using spray paint (or any paint) is to do multiple light coats, making sure to wait a few minutes between each coat. If it gets sprayed on too heavy or too close it can cause paint to seep under the vinyl stencil.
ALLOW AN HOUR FOR DRYING. REMOVE the tape and the vinyl stencil. To remove the vinyl, use a weeding tool, or a skinny knife or a craft knife.
